How a duel works
If you have played a trading card game before, you already know most of this. If you have not, this is all of it.

Your Persona leads, four Allies stand beside it
One main figure, up to four supporting units on the field. Units attack the Persona across from them, or each other.

Break five Barriers, then land one more hit
Every player defends five Barriers. Each one that breaks hands its owner something back, so falling behind is not the end of the duel — it is the part where the deck fights hardest.

Switch your Codex mid-duel
Codex cards sit beside the field, not on it. Switching one changes how your deck behaves rather than adding power to the board, and you may switch once a turn.

Release your archipelago's State
Each deck is trying to reach one board condition of its own — Bayanihan, Andukha, Garahana. Reaching it is what turns the deck on, and every deck gets there a different way.

- Is Codex Legends free to play?
- Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no account and nothing to buy. It is an early play-test build.
- What is Codex Legends about?
- Every deck is drawn from the pre-colonial history and folklore of a real Philippine archipelago — Agta from Luzon, Babaylan from the Visayas and Maguindanao from Mindanao. The figures on the cards are the region's own.
- How do you win a duel?
- Each player defends five Barriers. Break all five and land one more hit to win. Barriers give the player losing something back, so a duel rarely ends the moment someone falls behind.
- Do I need to know trading card games already?
- No. There is a tutorial in the game, and the duel explains each step the first time it happens. A match takes about ten minutes.
- Can I play on a phone?
- It loads on a phone, but the board is dense and it is far better on a desktop or tablet screen.
